WickedGov:Spam

From WickedGov, the Massachusetts civics wiki

Spam on WickedGov means advertising or promotion of a person, place, idea, or thing, which is not allowed.

Spamming is a form of vandalism and will generally result in an indefinite block for accounts or a lengthy block for IP addresses, especially if the spam was clearly done through the use of an automated spambot.

Spambots are computer programs that attempt to automatically insert spam onto pages on forums or wikis such as WickedGov. This spam will usually contain links to undesirable websites.

Spambots may use open proxies to make it more difficult for websites to prevent them from operating. Report open proxies to the appropriate global request page for a global block.

WickedGov uses automated filters and other mechanisms to combat spambots, so most spambots are unsuccessful in actually creating or editing pages, but some more advanced programs may slip through the cracks.

Dealing with spam

edit source

If you come across a page that seems to contain only spam, check the page history to see if there is any spam-free version to revert it to. If not, place a {{db-spam}} tag at the top of the page, which will call it to an administrator's attention for speedy deletion.

If you come across an otherwise constructive page that has been hijacked by spam, do your best to remove it. The easiest way to do it might be by reverting to a prior version.

Accounts and IP addresses engaged in spam may be reported to the administrators' noticeboard for a block.
