Christopher Richard Flanagan is a politician who has represented the 1st Barnstable district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 2023. A member of the Democratic Party, Flanagan was first elected to the seat in 2022.[1]

On April 11, 2025, Flanagan was arrested on federal charges of wire fraud and falsification of records; he was arraigned later that day. These events prompted Republican calls for his resignation.[2][3]

Education[edit | edit source]

Flanagan got a bachelor's degree at Emmanuel College in Boston and a master's degree at the Naval War College in Rhode Island.[4]

Career before office[edit | edit source]

Flanagan has previously worked on the staff of two U.S. senators from Massachusetts and a U.S. Secretary of State.[4]

Electoral history[edit | edit source]

Before his election to the House, Flanagan was a member of the Select Board of the town of Dennis for five years.[4]

2022[edit | edit source]

Flanagan went unopposed in the Democratic primary. In the general election, he defeated Republican nominee Tracy A. Post and unenrolled candidate Abraham Kasparian, Jr., winning 53.4% of the vote.[5]

2024[edit | edit source]

Flanagan was also unopposed for the 2024 Democratic nomination.

In the general election, he went up against Republican Gerald Joseph O'Connell. Flanagan stated that one of his top legislative priorities was building and maintaining local insfrastructure.[4] He defeated O'Connell with 56.5% of the vote.[5]
